RESULTS: Ulster SFAI Skechers National Cup Round One

The first weekend of SFAI Skechers National Cup action got underway in the Ulster region last Saturday and Sunday, and there was plenty to celebrate for many teams as they booked their place in the next round.

The overall competition sees 1,500 teams take part, and those that qualify from the Ulster region in November will go into the National Round of 32.

Several teams picked up wins on the road at the weekend, and there were some very impressive displays from a number of clubs.

Huge weekend ahead in the SFAI Skechers National Cups

It is the biggest weekend of football in the SFAI Skechers National Cups as teams in all eight regions take part for the first time this season, hoping to secure a place in the second round.

Last weekend saw a small number of teams in the Connacht region get their competition underway, and with the 2019/20 season now up and running, it promises to be another one to remember.

This season’s SFAI Skechers National Cups will see almost 1,500 teams compete across the country, for the chance to claim both regional and national prizes.

The competition has seen a marked increase in entries this term at some ages, and the excitement of the cup will b felt right across Ireland as the games begin.

SFAI Skechers National Cups 2019/20 get underway in Connacht

The SFAI Skechers National Cups got underway in Connacht last weekend, with several teams across the U12, U14 and U16 ages securing their places in the second round.

In what was surely one of the games of the weekend, Knocknacarra FC’s U12 side were taken all the way to penalties in their tie with Hodosn Bay Celtic FC.

The two teams put in a stellar performance, but could not be separated, and they went on to demonstrate a penalty taking masterclass before Knocknacarra won 12-11.

Elsewhere, the Athenry FC U12s team came out on top when they faced Moyne Villa – winning 3-0 thanks to goals from Eoin Doyle and another from Ethan Mitchell.

Several other teams also progressed to the second round – well done to all.

This coming weekend will see the U13s and U15s play in Connacht, while the other eight regions will all see their first round games take place.

THE DRAW: SFAI Skechers National Cups 2019/20 Draw

The draw for the SFAI Skechers National Cups is now complete and available to view on SFAI.ie.

In total, 80 draws have been made for rounds one and two, with almost 1,500 teams entered for the season ahead.

Teams from eight regions will compete in the early stages, before moving onto the national rounds, which sees the last 32 teams enter the open draw.

The opening weekend of fixtures is scheduled for the September 14th/15th, with SFAI Regional Co-Ordinators working alongside league secretaries to arrange the ties.
