Evan Geary’s goal was the difference when WWEC and Cork met in the U12 Munster SFAI Subway Plate Final on Sunday.

Having only beaten West Cork last week in the semi-final, the quick turnaround did not hamper the young WWEC team.

After a tentative opening quarter of an hour, Geary struck with 18 minutes on the clock in front of a bumper crowd in Lismore.

The rest of the first half saw both teams show plenty to suggest there would be more goals, but it was the defensive side of the game that came to the fore for the most part.

After the break the good football continued, but there was to be no more goals, and so WWEC progressed to the national semi-final.

They will now play Drogheda next weekend for a place in the national finals in Mullingar later in May.
