It was a great Friday for Drogheda’s U12 side as they overcame Kilkenny on penalties to move into the Leinster SFAI Subway Plate semi-final.

Travelling to Evergreen FC, the young Drogheda players showed plenty during the game to suggest they would hit the back of the net at some point in normal time.

However, breaking down the stern Kilkenny defence proved a tough test, and the homeside also had plenty of opportunities to open their account during regulation minutes as the game ebbed and flowed from end to end.

Adam Cadwell was awarded the Player of the Match award afterwards by his fellow Drogheda team-mates, and his impact was obvious, linking play and creating whenever on the ball.

In the shootout Cian O’Halloran was one of the heroes, saving twice between the posts for the visitors, while it was left to Sam Heeney to convert the final spot-kick and send Drogheda through to the U12 Leinster SFAI Subway Plate semi-final.
