St Mary’s of Cork have made it into the semi-finals of the U16 SFAI Skechers National Cup after they beat Evergreen 3-1 in Kilkenny on St Patrick’s Day.

The visitors opened their account through Conor Docherty when his neat turn allowed him to engineer a strike on target.

James O’Leary added a second after the half hour mark when he converted from the penalty spot. Having been taken in the box, he quickly regained composure to make it 2-0.

After the restart Sean Dennehy had to be at his best between the posts for the eventual winners as Evergreen heaped pressure on the Saints’ goal.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, Pierce Cummins made it 3-0 when he latched onto a decent cross from Ronan Murphy.

Late on the homeside did score, but the consolation goal took little away from the St Mary’s performance.

This is the second time in a row this team has reached the last four of the SFAI Skechers National Cup, and they will now await the winners of the tie between Leixlip and Charleville.
