The NECSL U13 side registered their first win of the SFAI Subway Championship on Sunday when they welcomed Wicklow to the MDL.

With this being the last game in group two of the Leinster division before the play-offs, NECSL were keen to bag a victory, and they were very impressive, scoring a number of goals.

Matt Heusz netted four times, while others including Neil McGinley, Josh Hand and Rhys Kelly also penned their name on the scoresheet.

The opening period of the tie was a close one, with Wicklow proving tough to break down.

However, Heusz and McGinley showed a clinical eye on front of goal, putting the homeside ahead midway through the half.

Wicklow did hit back to make it 2-1, but the NECSL youngsters continued to press, and added to their tally as their play developed in the first half.

This group have been together since November, and speaking after the game their management said that the ties to date have been close, but in some of those games they have been unlucky.

Before Sunday’s clash the NECSL had only lost by the slimmest of margins to the NDSL and SDFL, while they battled hard for a point when they drew 3-3 with Kilkenny.

Their latest match against Wicklow showed the progression of the group, and in the second half they continued to show their eye for goal, adding to their total thanks to Hand, Kelly, and another brace from Heusz.
