It was a remarkable day for the Mallow United U14’s as they booked their place in the quarter-finals of the SFAI Skechers National Cup, beating Douglas Hall 4-1.

All four of United’s goals were scored by the magnificent Kennedy Amechi, with the Mallow youngster showing a clinical eye on front of goal.

His first came after five minutes when Ciaran O’Sullivan teed him up, and his second came after he dispatched a low shot across the goalkeeper to the bottom corner.

Amechi completed his hat-trick in the second half when he burst through from the halfway line before converting, and he ended the day with a fourth with five minutes left to play

Harry Nevin scored Douglas Hall’s goal, but the day surely belonged to Amechi who was in fine form.

Having beaten Listowel Celtic in the last round, Mallow’s win over Douglas Hall is another feather in their cap, and they will bounce into the quarter-finals full of confidence.

Among the teams in that draw, which will take place once the remaining ties have been played next weekend, will be Cherry Orchard, St Kevin’s Boys and Aisling Annacotty among others.
