It was a day to remember for Rosenallis’ U12 side on Saturday as they booked their place in the last 16 of the SFAI Skechers National Cup with a thrilling win over Corduff.

The game ended 3-3 after extra-time, and it was only after several penalties were taken that the Laois side emerged victorious on what was a superb day for the club.

Corduff, to their credit, were excelling all afternoon, and they came within a few minutes of winning, but Oisin Lalor’s late strike sent the game to a shootout.

The visitors took the lead inside 10 minutes when Ajibola Oluwabiyi converted from the penalty spot after he was taken down in the box.

The young winger was in explosive form on the day, and caused Rosenallis problems with his pace and direct approach.

The homeside are known for their determination, having come from a goal down to win games already this season, and they were level when Niall Lalor struck from the edge of the box after Sean Lalor’s free-kick had been cleared.

Tami Ogunbare had pulled off a spectacular save in the Corduff goal to deny Oisin Lalor just before that, and the likes of Oran Gorman and Evin Daly kept the Rosenallis attack on the front-foot.

However, Oluwabiyi’s pace was devastating for Corduff, and when he raided up the right side and drilled a low ball across the box, it was turned into the goal by a Rosenallis leg.

It remained 2-1 until just after the restart when Aron Lalor raced onto a perfectly weighted through-ball to finish with class.

Both teams had half chances to steal the win before the final whistle but both Ogunbare and Peter Doyle managed their goals well and pulled off some good saves.

In extra-time the drama continued when Rosenallis won a penalty, which they missed, and shortly after that Corduff had the lead again.

Habir Malik latched onto Jake McCormack’s pass and showed superb composure to slip the ball past Doyle who could do little in the home goal.

With the nerves at an all-time high, the home crowd urged their team on, and when Oisin Lalor rippled the back of the net late to make it 3-3 it was going to come down to penalties.

Both teams showed great courage to step up and take their spot-kicks, and it ended 3-2 in sudden death to Rosenallis who look forward to the last 16 on what was a very good day for the Laois club.
