Goals from Aidan Cunningham and Sean Morahan saw Castlebar Celtic overcome Midleton on Sunday in their U14 SFAI Skechers National Cup tie, with the game ending 2-1.

The tie began with Midleton on the front-foot, and their high tempo meant it took Celtic a while to settle.

When they did, the likes of Dylan Howley, Jake Daly and Ben McHale in midfield gained some ground in the engine room, and the homeside eventually broke the deadlock on 25 minutes.

Fionn Mahon and Kaelen Mee combined to free Daly who in turn slipped in Cunningham, and he converted to the back of the net.

That goal gave Castlebar more confidence, and they doubled their lead shortly after that thanks to Morahan.

He reacted quickest in the box to a loose ball, slamming it home from close-range.

In the second half Midleton continued to press for a goal, while both Mee and McManamon went close for Celtic.

The visitors finally pulled one back late on, but it was too late for a revival.

Castlebar Celtic will now travel to Cregmore/Claregalway in the last 16 after they beat Galbally United.
