Having suffered an opening day defeat to the DDSL in the U13 SFAI Subway Championship, Drogheda regrouped and showed their quality when they overcame Carlow on Saturday.

The game was only a couple of minutes old when Keever Carolan netted the opener, and Tadgh Dunne then made it 2-0 when he reacted quickest in the box to turn the ball home after it rebounded off the crossbar.

Both James Imgram and Shane Duffy led the line for Carlow, and the two were a handful for the homeside to deal with, making intelligent runs and showing good movement.

However, they rarely had a sight of the Drogheda goal in the first half, and at the break it was 2-0 to the eventual winners.

In the second period Aitay Guneyer made it 3-0 when he converted Sean O’Halloran’s cross, and Maithiu Breen added a forth with the goal of the game.

Standing just inside the opposition half, he struck the ball and watched as it bounced in the box and found its way into the net.

Carlow did show their quality at times, and they almost pulled back a consolation goal late on but Summer Lawless was quick off her line to sweep up the loose ball.
