Kilkenny’s U12 SFAI Subway Championship side registered their second win of the competition on Sunday when they travelled to the SDFL in Ballyowen Park.

Having had an opening day win over Wicklow and then a defeat to the Midlands, Sunday’s tie offered Kilkenny the opportunity to bounce back, and the young players took the chance with both hands.

Eoin Sheppard netted the first goal, which involved some slick passing and good build-up play.

Darragh Doyle bagged the second of the day for the visitors, and, once again, the move that led to the goal was well-worked.

The SDFL had their own chances, and showed plenty to suggest they are developing well, but a stern Kilkenny defence meant it was 2-0 at the break.

Both sides switched their teams at the interval, giving all those in attendance a fair share of playing time, and the homeside finally made the breakthrough shortly after the tie had resumed.

That gave them confidence, and they pushed hard for an equaliser, but when Adam Coyne, who was excellent on the left side for Kilkenny, scored a superb free-kick, the difference was back up to two.

Hamza El Harrak then applied the gloss to the victory with another good team goal, and attentions now turn to their final group game against Wexford.

Both sides were also treated to sandwiches and snacks from the local Subway store, and we would like to thank Andrea from Subway for feeding the troops after what was a great day of football.
