Kevin Kitterick finally broke the deadlock after the half-time restart, and Kelly then engineered a superb goal, converting after a cleverly worked set-piece.

Longford showed their worth, and continued to play good football, but will have to look to their next game for their first win in this year’s competition.

Meanwhile, Mayo’s U15 team went down 3-1 to Galway when they faced their Connacht rivals on Saturday.

Mathew English netted the goal for Mayo, while Jake Daly also impressed on a day when they reached the semi-final of the SFAI Subway Plate competition.
