Nenagh AFC’s U12 side set up a last 32 tie with Westport United in the SFAI Skechers National Cup when they overcame Shannon Town on Saturday – eventually running out 2-0 winners.

The game was only 10 minutes old when Joey McLoughlin scored the all-important opening goal.

Kian Kelly then set up Chullain McGrath with a perfectly weighted through-ball for Nenagh’s second of the day, and he made no mistake, sending his shot to the back of the net.

The visitors continued to go in search of further goals, but at the break the score remained 2-0.

Shannon came out of the traps quickly in the second half and created a couple of chances, but the stern Nenagh defence held firm.

Meanwhile, only the woodwork denied the eventual winners from adding to their tally.

Nenagh will now face Westport United in the last 32 after they overcame Manulla, beating them 4-0, also on Saturday.

The victory for Nenagh also sees them into the SFAI Skechers National Cup regional play-off where they will face Caherdavin Celtic.

A win for either side in that tie will lead to a regional semi-final clash with Bridge United, while Killorglin and Rathkeale will contest the second regional semi-final.
