Carlow bounced back from going a goal down in the first half to emerge victorious when they met Wexford in the U15 SFAI Subway Championship on Sunday.

Having created chances through Oscar Brennan and Dylan Hand, they were undone in the first period by a swift counter-attacking Wexford goal, but in the second half Brandon Kelly had them level early on.

He drifted by a couple of players before finding the back of the net with a powerful strike that ignited a confidence in the entire team.

Carlow were then ahead with 15 minutes left on the clock when Brennan converted Kelly’s cross after good work from wide.

Both had combined well before the winner, and the duo will prove difficult opponents for who ever they come up against in the future.

Meanwhile, Carlow’s U13 side travelled to Curracloe to face their Wexford counterparts in the SFAI Subway Championship, also on Sunday.

The homeside impressed in the opening half, hitting the post with an effort, and Michael Gaffney sprung into action in the Carlow goal after that to block the follow-up shot.

In the second half, a lovely piece of play from Brandon Cassidy allowed Shane Duffy to race for the Wexford goal, and he converted with precision to put the visitors in front in Curracloe.

Unfortunately Duffy then had to be withdrawn due to injury, and soon after that Wexford equalised to leave it honours even at the final whistle.
